What Our Guests Say: Real Pahadi Food and a Luxury Stay at Satopanth The Auli Resort

Pahadi Food and Luxury Stay in Auli: Guest Reviews | Satopanth The Auli Resort

By Satopanth The Auli Resort, Lower Auli, Joshimath, Uttarakhand

Ask our guests about their trip to Auli, and they talk about two things: the Himalayan view from the balcony and the food. Many tell us they came for the snow, but went home remembering a hot mandwe ki roti, a spicy bhatt ki churkani and a cup of pahadi chai that tasted pure and full of flavour.

Here is what guests feel about our pahadi food and our comfortable stay, so you know what to expect.

What is Mandwe ki Roti?

Mandwe ki roti (also called mandua roti) is made from finger millet, known as ragi in many parts of India. It is dark brown, soft when hot, and has a deep, earthy, slightly nutty taste.

Families in Garhwal and Kumaon have eaten it for generations in the cold months. It is known for fibre and calcium, so many people see it as a healthy choice. Add a little ghee on top, and it becomes a treat.

What is Bhatt ki Churkani?

Bhatt is the black soybean of the Uttarakhand hills. bhatt ki churkani is nutty, spicy and a little tangy, and every home makes it slightly differently.

Guests love it with a piece of hot mandwe ki roti. It is a simple pair, but it tastes like the mountains.

Why is pahadi chai so special?

What else can you eat at the resort?

If you love pahadi food, look out for aloo ke gutke, kafuli, phanu, chainsoo and jhangora ki kheer. Please ask our team what is available during your stay.
